Hi Everyone,
In case you didn't know I do drywall work. It is actually one of my most common repairs. When I first started doing drywall I was told it was an art. At the time I chuckled and said yea right. Of course this is when I didn't know how to do it myself and was working as a laborer. Now of all the tasks I do it, Id say there is an art to this. From the min the pieces are cut you must do it right or you will spend extra time and mud. For instance using scraps when its un-necessary, uses up extra time mudding even though you save a few bucks not needing a new sheet. Sometimes this is the only thing you can do if the store is an hour away, but if you have an extra sheet cut into that baby. Also putting mudd down takes time, practice, and finesse. Not knowing what your doing in the mudding stage can make the job for a homeowner drag out. Why waste your precious weekends dealing with drywall, when you can call me. Weather it be a simple flat-wall, or an archway I can do it all. Best Regards, Ken

Organization equals efficiency, If there isn't structure to a project I just don't like it. The pictures shown in the slideshow are one of the biggest projects you can take on in a home, including replacing a staircase and creating a much larger opening by putting in a massive header to support the weight. My point here for this post is, you save more money by having the work area clear and ready for me. Of course I understand that cleaning before I come is not always an option, but I do highly recommend it.
Point number two about keeping the site organized is it is safer. Any nails that are left sticking out of boards should be addressed immediately, either bend them over or pull them out. A nice sized garbage can should also be near at all times to minimize the number of times rubble has to be handled. Many jobs around the home can be completed without a company being bonded or insured. Jobs such as lawn-mowing, or cleaning, dry-wall and painting. But why take the risk I ask? The simple fact is there are many people out there who do what I do and are simply not insured. Yes, the home owners insurance might pick up the tab, or will it. In my days in business I've heard plenty of horror stories, the worst being from a company who solely does HVAC. This document above is for your reference as a customer. Sometimes before a job can start I show proof of this document.
Good mourning world, first off for this rant to even matter, you must first buy top quality paint brushes. I must also note that this rant is specific to water based paints. The brushes pictured above are in the 12-15 dollar range. These are not my best brushes and are here for illustrative purposes. First off the angled shash brush is my favorite brush to use. It has painted dozens of rooms and is about 3 years old at this moment with another 5 or more to go. The reason this brush has lasted me this long is because I clean them properly and asap. Anytime you are painting for extended periods of time you want to refresh you brush meaning clean it mid-day to keep the bristles fluid and safe. You will also notice that I have a bottle of dish soap in the image above. This is a trick that I learned from an old painter, immediately after finishing your painting, clean your brush with dish soap warm water and a painters brush comb. Brushing with the comb should be done on a flat surface. Without the comb, brushes start collecting hardened paint at the top of the brush and eventually this travels to the tip rendering the brush useless. After cleaning your brush they should be placed in a keeper to make sure the tip stays strait and pointed.
Best Regards, Ken This is a how to guide on how to hire out for a little job. It all starts with a phone call, you ask if I can come look at it first. If It is only a few hours worth of work and 30min to 1 hour away I will tell you no. But what I can do is ask you a few questions, have you send a few pictures. I will quickly tell you what to go buy and what day I can schedule you in. Many people fail to realize I get 5 paid days a week, and thats on a good week. Yeah, it rains sometimes when there is a job outside. My point being is I wouldn't be able to provide my service if I spent every other day wasting 1/2 a day looking at a job. I have enough experience to give you a small job price over the phone. If you need pictures, or references I have them.
You can as well easily save your self some money by researching your project before calling me buy needed materials and then give me a call. I will gladly answer any questions about your handyman needs before I come out, or see a dime. I would also like to note that my pricing is based on distance I have to travel to you so the further out the more your quote will be. I would also like to add that free estimates are available on any job I see worth spending the time on, examples include: remodels, and roofs. Best Regards, Ken |
